The Rudomin family was sent to the bigger of the two buildings. in that location were no beds so they had to sleep on the floor. The reason why they were in Rubtsovsk, Siberia was because they were going to mine Gypsum to make plaster casts for injure soldiers. The peerless day a Russian general came extinct and told the groups at the mine that those who wished could leave the mine area to go into town to get a new place to sleep with and a job.

Esther and her family found a house to sleep in, further they were crowd together into one large room. All too suddenly they had to go find new living quarters. The Rudomin family was in one case again on the streets. Esther Rudomin was going to develop, until she got sick. Then the doctor state that she had to say home from s! chool until spring. This upset Esther because she very much enjoyed going to school and it disappointed her when she knew how behind she would be in her studies. It would almost be impossible for her to catch up.
